La belleza de los juguetes de madera y los juguetes sensoriales / The beauty of the wooden toys and sensory toys

Antes del nacimiento de mi hija, apenas había oido hablar de los juguetes de madera, o de los juguetes sensoriales. 

Os invito a que leais el post en el blog Eneso que habla de los juguetes sensoriales. Cito textualmente "Cuando hablamos de estimulación sensorial hacemos referencia a la entrada de información del entorno al sistema nervioso a través de los sentidos para elaborar sensaciones y percepciones. Esto constituye el primer elemento sobre el que se construye cualquier aprendizaje, ya que supone la primera etapa del desarrollo de las funciones cognitivas básicas (atención, memoria) y permite el desarrollo de las funciones cognitivas superiores(resolución de problemas, razonamiento, lenguaje y creatividad)."

Muchos de los juguetes que podemos utilizar son objetos cotidianos. Otros, podemos hacerlos nosotros mismos y otros los podemos comprar. ¿Qué grandes ventajas podemos encontrar? Especialmente los juguetes sensoriales no necesitan una inversión grande de dinero. Si bien es cierto que normalmente los de madera cuestan más que los de plástico, es porque es un material más natural y duradero. Contamina menos y encima dura más, ¡todo un plus! Además, muchos de los juguetes actuales, al incluir mucha tecnología, los niños juegan con ellos de manera muy autómata y sólo pueden realizar una función concreta. Esto no pasará con los juguetes de madera o sensoriales.

Para seguir añadieno ventajas, suelen tener más de una utilidad, ya que no son juguetes diseñados para un uso específico y dejan que la imaginación del pequeño cree nuevas formas de divertirse con ellos. Un ejemplo claro, el arcoiris de madera (arcoiris Waldorf o arcoiris de Grimm) 

 ¿Qué me decis de las botellas sensoriales? Tenemos unas cuantas en casa y ¡son todo un éxito! Son muy fáciles de hacer y baratas. Estimular a vuestros hijos con distintas texturas y colores, pesos, etc.

Me declaro seguidora total de Montessori, ojalá existiesen más guarderías y colegios que siguieran este modo tan precioso de educación.

Mi suegra fue quien me introdujo en este mundo y cada día me gusta más.

A pesar de que se piensa que Montessori es solo para gente con muchos recursos...hay muchisimas cosas que podemos hacer en casa! Con poner en google Montessori DIY te vale para descubrir muchisimas posibilidades. 

He de decir que una de las cosas preferidas de mi hija también es su cesta de los tesoros, cada semana quito algunos y pongo otros, es todo un descubrimiento y para un buen rato muy concentrada descubriéndolos. Aquí los de esta semana, para ponerte un ejemplo:

Por último, nombrar la "caja de permanencia", nuestra última adquisición. Esta maravilla, que a simple vista parece tan obvia y sencilla, suele mantener ocupados a los pequeños grandes periodos de tiempo. Les enseña los conceptos de "dentro" y "fuera", desarrolla la motricidad fina, les enseña que las cosas están "ahí" aunque no las vean...en fin...infinidad de cosas, ¡y sólo con una caja y una pelota!

If I may, I am going to translate something I saw in a blog (in Spanish) called Eneso about sensory toys: " When we talk about sensory stimulation we mean the reception of information in the nervous system through the senses in order to create sensations and perceptions. This is the basis of all kinds of  learning, as this constitutes the first step of development of the cognitive functions (problem solving, reasoning, language and creativity)." 

 Many of the toys we can use with our babies can be just elements that we find in our daily life. Other we can DIY them and other we can buy. Which are the main advantages of using wooden and sensory toys? Sensory toys in particular don't need a major investment at all. And if it's true that wooden toys can be more expensive than the traditional plastic toys, however the y are way more durable (and natural) and are environmental friendly. What else?

Also, many of the modern toys, as they include technology and/or are computerised, babies and kids play with them in an "automatic mode", as they only have one function. This would not happen with wooden and sensory toys. They can be used in a million different ways!

Wooden and sensory toys stimulate baby's imagination as they don´t have an specific way tobe played with. A very simple example is the Grimm´s rainbow (or Waldorf rainbow)

 Do you know you can make sensory bottles at home? We do have some and they are a hit! Very easy to make and cheap. They make your little ones discover textures, colours, weights, etc

Have your heard from the Montessori approach? I can declare myself a true fan! I wish there were more nurseries and schools using this philosophy, I think it really respects the kid and makes everybody a better person. I know of it because my mother in law introduced it into my life.

Despite of the wrong idea that Montessori is only for reach people, there are so many things we can make at home, and adapt it to reflect this approach that I would need another post just to talk about that. If you want to start getting familiar with it, just google Montessori DIY, or find some groups on Facebook, they can help a lot!

One of my daughter's favourites toys is "the treasure basket", each week I change them so she discovers new ones every now and then and re-discovers them after a while. She spends a good amount of time so focused on them! These are the ones she has this week: 

Last but not least, I would like to mention the "permanence box", our last acquisition. This beautiful toy shows something we take for granted, the concepts of "in" and "out", but this teaches so many other things to our babies: for example, teaches them that "not because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there anymore", it develops their fine motor skills...and keeps them busy for a while just using a box and two balls!
